About The Club

Sutton Coldfield Rifle & Pistol Club was formed in 1944 and was originally named the Sutton Coldfield ‘C’ Company Home Guard Rifle Club. The club moved to its current purpose built range in 1979.

The club seeks to promote indoor target shooting at ranges between 10 metres and 25 yards using air weapons and .22 rim fire cartridge weapons and has designated nights for different types of shooting click here to see shooting disciplines.

The club welcomes people regardless of level of skill, gender or whether they are able bodied or disabled. The club has a comprehensive selection of equipment that novices can use so that people wanting to try shooting for the first time do not have to go out and buy expensive equipment. Training and guidance is provided to new members by our Range Officers and the more experienced members, which includes people who shoot, or have shot, for Warwickshire and Staffordshire Counties, others who have shot for Great Britain and one who was selected for Great Britain in the Olympics. One of our members was the British Men’s Air Rifle Champion and held a World Record.

Whilst some members prefer “recreational” shooting the club tries to encourage everyone to participate in competitions: either internal club competitions or national “postal” competitions; and also to take an active role in club activities.

We enter a number of postal competitions throughout the year, which usually comprises a Winter Season (September/October through to March/April) and a Summer Season (April/June through to August/September). There are also frequent club competitions where members shoot against other members.

In 1996 we came first in the National Roll of Marksmen and have never been lower than 7th since first entering the competition. In 1999 our 20 yard air pistol team was the best in the country. We also have the club ladder on which you can challenge other members to try to show that you’re the best shot in the club!

The high point of the year is the Annual Dinner and prize giving, usually held in April, when members and their partners get together at a local venue to socialise and give out prizes won throughout the year. We also arrange outdoor shooting events so that members can try other aspects of the sport over different ranges (e.g. 50m and 100yds .22 shooting) and have an established Christmas Shoot, using challenging but fun targets to ease us into the Christmas Spirit!
